What it is
Snap-8 (acetyl octapeptide-3) is a synthetic peptide developed by the Spanish cosmetics-ingredient company Lipotec (now part of Lubrizol Life Science) as an extension of Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8), adding two amino acids to the parent sequence. Like Argireline, it mimics the N-terminal portion of SNAP-25, a protein required for neurotransmitter release, and works by inhibiting SNARE-complex assembly at the neuromuscular junction — reducing the muscle micro-contractions responsible for expression lines.
The manufacturer's own claim
Lipotec's own testing — applying a 10% Snap-8 solution twice daily for 28 days, measured by laser scanning microscopy on silicon skin imprints — reported up to a 63% reduction in wrinkle depth in treated areas, and separately claimed roughly 30% greater activity than Argireline at equivalent concentration. These are real, specific, and widely repeated numbers. They are also, as far as we could determine, entirely manufacturer-generated testing, not a study published in an independent peer-reviewed journal with its own methodology available for scrutiny.
What independent evidence exists
We did not find an independent, peer-reviewed randomized controlled human trial of Snap-8, and no registered clinical trial of the compound appears in public trial registries. That is a thinner evidence base than exists for its predecessor Argireline, which — while itself only Grade B on this site — has at least been subject to independent evaluation, including a 2023 assessment that found no measurable effect at the tested concentration.
What this means for buyers
Snap-8 has a coherent, plausible mechanism shared with an already-marketed, better-evidenced peptide, and a specific, often-repeated efficacy number that traces to the manufacturer rather than an independent trial. That doesn't make the mechanism false — SNARE-complex inhibition is real pharmacology — but the "63%" figure should be read as a company's own testing result, not independently confirmed evidence, until an independent study says otherwise.
