Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and what we don't do with it.

The short version

We collect an email address if you give us one to send you the newsletter, and standard, anonymised traffic analytics to see which pages are actually being read. We don't sell data, we don't run ad-network trackers, and we don't share your email with anyone outside the service that sends the newsletter.

What we collect

• Newsletter signups. Your email address, and the date you subscribed. Used only to send the weekly email. You can unsubscribe from any email in one click; we delete the address on request.
• Site analytics. Aggregated, non-identifying data about which pages are visited, for how long, and from roughly where (country/region level) — used to decide what to write next and to check the site is working. We use a standard analytics tool for this; it does not, to our knowledge, build an advertising profile of you, and we don't use the data for advertising.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, page requested) for security and reliability, in line with its own policy.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
• We don't run third-party advertising trackers.
• We don't share your email outside the service we use to send the newsletter.

Cookies

We use only the cookies or local storage needed to run analytics and remember basic preferences. We don't use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, contact us via the details on the About page — corrections and privacy requests both go to the same address, and we respond to both.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and note what changed, in keeping with the corrections policy we hold everyone else to.
