What it is
Retatrutide is a "triple agonist" — it acts on GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, developed by Eli Lilly, one mechanism further than tirzepatide's dual GIP/GLP-1 action.
The trial evidence
The peer-reviewed Phase 2 trial (Jastreboff et al., N Engl J Med 2023;389:514-526, DOI 10.1056/NEJMoa2301972, PMID 37366315) enrolled 338 adults with obesity over 48 weeks and found dose-dependent weight loss up to a mean 24.2% at the highest dose versus placebo. Lilly has since announced — via company press release, not yet peer-reviewed — large positive topline results from Phase 3 trials including TRIUMPH-1. Company-reported numbers are real information, but a meaningfully weaker form of evidence than a published, peer-reviewed trial, and worth treating as such rather than as settled.
Regulatory status
Not approved anywhere. Lilly has said it expects to file for FDA approval in the US around early 2027. In the meantime, FDA has issued real warning letters to online sellers marketing unapproved retatrutide as a research chemical — part of a documented 2026 sweep naming more than a dozen vendors, several of which are also logged on this site's own Register.
Why it's already sold online
As an investigational compound with strong publicized trial numbers, retatrutide is a predictable target for grey-market "research chemical" sale well before any approval — the same pattern this site has documented for BPC-157 and semaglutide-adjacent compounds. None of the sellers behind those warning letters are listed as vetted anywhere on this site.
