What it is
Mechano growth factor is the name given to a splice variant of the endogenous IGF-1 gene, first described in muscle tissue responding to mechanical overload or injury — a real, published piece of exercise physiology, distinct from the main circulating IGF-1 isoform. Native MGF has an extremely short biological half-life, which is the commercial rationale for PEG-MGF: attaching a polyethylene glycol chain to slow its clearance and make it viable as an injectable product.
What the evidence actually covers
Preclinical work — cell-culture assays showing PEG-MGF promotes myoblast proliferation and delays satellite-cell differentiation, and rodent models of muscle injury and hypertrophy — is real and published. A 2026 peer-reviewed review of GH-IGF1-axis performance peptides (the same review covering IGF-1 LR3, DOI 10.3389/fendo.2026.1822475) found that human randomized controlled trials of PEG-MGF are lacking, and that claims about recovery or body-composition effects in people remain unproven.
The mechanistic distinction that matters
The same review draws a specific contrast: preclinical data suggest PEG-MGF acts earlier in the muscle-repair process (promoting stem-like satellite-cell proliferation) than IGF-1 LR3, which more directly drives protein synthesis in already-differentiated muscle fibers — a genuinely interesting piece of biology, and one reason the two compounds get sold as a "stack." But this is animal and cell-culture pharmacology, not a demonstrated human effect.
Real biology, no human proof
MGF's existence and role in muscle repair is genuine, published science. That doesn't make PEG-MGF, the injectable product sold online, a proven treatment in people — those are two different claims, and only the first one is settled.
What buyers should know
PEG-MGF is not an approved drug anywhere, has no established human dosing evidence, and — as of the most recent dedicated review available — has never been tested in a published human clinical trial. The biology behind the marketing pitch is real; the human proof it works as sold is not.
